NADA Conference, ROM Project, and how you can get involved

SMART Recovery Australia is very proud to announce the next phase of our Routine Outcome Monitoring project. Building from a previous systematic review, the project, spearheaded by a powerhouse research team from the University of Wollongong, and funded by a generous research grant from the NSW Ministry of Health under the NSW Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Early Intervention Innovation Grant Scheme, will be underway from 2018 through 2019.

We are currently looking for SMART Recovery participants from groups across NSW to help with the pre-release development of this study. The below presentation was delivered to thunderous applause by Dr Alison Beck at the NADA Conference 2018.

If you’re interested in assisting us with the development of this project, please see details below.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

In a world-first study, SMART Recovery Australia is working with a team of researchers to see how best to help SMART Recovery participants track their own progress over time.

We are developing an online tool for this purpose (“SMART ROM”). We would like SMART-ROM to:

  • be super brief (no more than about one to two minutes to complete).
  • cover areas that matter to participants (e.g. things they would like to do; how they feel they are coping; quality of life, mood and how they are going with any problematic behaviours).
  • SMART Recovery is interested in developing this because tracking progress is one way of improving participant outcomes (e.g. quality of life) and it will also help us understand how useful SMART Recovery is – what sort of changes participants are seeing

To make sure SMART-ROM is as useful as possible, we would like to talk to participants about their experience with SMART Recovery, what outcomes and feedback matter to them and how they feel about tracking their progress over time.

If you would like to hear more about this opportunity to have your say about the development and use of SMART-ROM – it remains completely up to you whether you end up choosing to participate – please contact a member of the research team directly on 0437 360 612 (text or call) or alisonbe@uow.edu.au.
