What happens at a SMART Recovery meeting and how long does it go for?
SMART Recovery group meetings last for 90 minutes and there are no breaks. It is a mutual-aid interactive group where people are all there to help themselves and help each other.
The meeting starts with a check-in, where participants discuss how their previous week has been. There is then time for discussion of agenda items, decided by participants, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tools and techniques. Participants share solutions and offer mutual aid. The meeting ends with a check out, where participants discuss their plan for the next week. The SMART Recovery tools are taught and used during the meeting.
