Can I get Proof of Attendance for SMART Recovery Meetings?
You can use a printable form from our resources page for in person meetings, or the Pathcheck online tool for online meetings.
Yes. You can get proof of attendance for SMART Recovery meetings, and the best place to start is Pathcheck.
Pathcheck – the primary way to get proof of attendance
For all SMART Recovery meetings, we encourage participants to:
-
Use Pathcheck to record attendance, and
-
Download a weekly Attendance Certificate after each meeting they attend.
Pathcheck is an online tool participants use to obtain a Certificate of Attendance. It is especially helpful for people who need proof of attendance for:
-
Court or legal matters
-
Parole or community corrections
-
Job agencies or employment requirements
-
Support programs, housing, or other services
We understand that not everyone will need this level of documentation (for example, those attending purely for personal reasons and not involved in the criminal justice system), but we still recommend using Pathcheck so proof is available if needed later.
Online meetings – how it works
Pathcheck is the online tool participants use to get a certificate of attendance after a SMART meeting. It’s especially helpful for those who need proof for court, parole, job agencies or support programs.
You can create a free Pathcheck account.
For online meetings:
-
The Pathcheck code for each meeting can also be found on the meeting page, just below the Pathcheck logo. It is available from 6 days before the meeting starts.
-
The facilitator shares a 6-character Pathcheck code during the session (typically in the Zoom chat).
-
You enter this code into Pathcheck, using the same name and email used for your registration or sign-in.
-
You then download your Attendance Certificate for that meeting.
In-person meetings
For in-person meetings, there are two options:
-
Pathcheck in-person: If the facilitator uses Pathcheck, you can record your attendance and download a digital Attendance Certificate.
-
Paper form: If Pathcheck isn’t used, you can bring a printed attendance sheet and ask the facilitator to sign it after each meeting. This signed form may be accepted as proof of attendance.
To receive a signature, you must actively participate in the meeting (at the facilitator’s discretion):
-
Print the attendance sheet below and bring it with you to the SMART Recovery meeting (facilitators do not provide or print this form).
-
At the end of the meeting, ask the facilitator to sign the form for that session.
Does SMART Recovery write personal letters or references?
SMART Recovery Australia does not provide personal reference letters, character references or detailed progress reports for participants.
Your Pathcheck Attendance Certificates (and, where relevant, signed attendance forms for in-person meetings) are considered the official proof of attendance.
You can download your attendance certificate — or even email it directly to a case manager or court officer.
If you are still stuck after following these steps, the best option is to contact Pathcheck’s customer support directly — they’re usually quick to respond and can resolve most issues fast.
