Can I request a court report on my SMART Recovery Meeting attendance?

In most cases, you do not need a separate court report to prove your attendance at SMART Recovery meetings.

The primary and preferred way to show verified attendance is through Pathcheck Attendance Certificates. These certificates are used widely for court, parole, legal, employment and other official purposes, and will usually be sufficient.

Use Pathcheck first – weekly Attendance Certificates

For any SMART Recovery meeting (online or in-person where Pathcheck is used), we strongly encourage participants to:

  • Register and check in via Pathcheck, and

  • Download an Attendance Certificate after each meeting (ideally every week).

  • Use the Pathcheck code available on the meeting page: the code for each meeting can be found just below the Pathcheck logo and is available from 6 days before the meeting starts. You then enter this code into Pathcheck, using the same name and email used for your registration or sign-in.

Each certificate includes key details such as:

  • Meeting date and time

  • Meeting ID and verification code

  • Participant details

  • Attendance confirmation

These are commonly accepted by courts, legal representatives, community corrections and other agencies as proof of attendance.

We understand that not all participants will download certificates every week, especially if they are not currently involved in the criminal justice system, but we do recommend it wherever possible in case it is needed later.

What if I still need additional documentation?

If a court, legal representative or agency specifically requests further documentation beyond your Pathcheck certificates, please contact SMART Recovery Australia. We can then discuss what may be possible in your situation, and whether any additional documentation can be provided and within what time frame.

SMART Recovery Australia can also provide a formal report addressed to the court, including the dates and times of your attendance at meetings, as well as an explanation of what SMART Recovery is. An official court report will incur a fee of $100.00 and will be delivered within 10 days of payment of the invoice. If you require an express report, this will incur a cost of $250.00 and will be delivered within 5 days of payment of the invoice.
