National Indigenous Drug & Alcohol Conference (NIDAC) from the 16-18 June 2010.

Josette and Jim attended and presented at the Inaugural National Indigenous Drug & Alcohol Conference (NIDAC) from the 16-18 June 2010. As a leading voice in Indigenous alcohol and drug policy, NIDAC provides advice to government, based on its collective expertise and knowledge from those working in the field, health professionals and other relevant experts. With over 450 participants from all over Australia and New Zealand, this conference titled “Listening, Learning and Leading” is marked as a historic and ground breaking event.

SMART Recovery presented on their recent partnership with the Director of The Safe and Sober Grog Mob in Central Australia which is part of Congress. Congress is the peak body of Health in Central Australia. The Safe and Sober Program is the Drug and Alcohol sector of Congress which has agreed to partner with SMART Recovery Australia to get SMART groups up and running in Alice Springs and some of the remote communities. During this presentation Josette and Jim outlined the various ways in which the SMART Recovery program can be adapted for Indigenous participants and their communities.
